Gold Star Ron's "Da Racer"

2010 Racing - MGP Challenge..!!

The challenge is still alive..!!  The BSA Gold Star has a strong racing history, winning championships in several forms of racing.  However, no BSA Gold Star has ever done a 100 MPH lap on the Isle of Man.  In fact, the fastest Gold Star is almost 6 MPH off of that mark.  Considering that the Gold Star OWNED the Clubman's Class on the Isle many years ago, this has become our challenge..!  So far in both 2008 and 2009 we had race day problems, causing us not to finish... but we WILL be back..!!   And for 2010, there are plans to run more of the AHRMA events, and provide a challenge in the Premier Class..!!

I wish to thank all of my BSA friends for their support, whether it was financial, friendship, mechanical, or expert advice.... Thank You Very Much..!

And I also wish to recognize those that helped on the Isle of Man, my great friends at Roundhay, The Manchester Gold Star Guys, Les & Andy, the Manx Motorcycle Club, and all the Officials and Marshals.

For those that are on the I.O.M. or are going, the businesses below assisted our efforts through Ago, thus supported the race effort.   Please support those, that support us..

A quick update, sadly at this year's TT Races, Paul Dobbs crashed and lost his life...   At least he was doing what he loved most, but Dobbs also raced a nice Gold Star in the MGP. and had several high 99 mph practice laps, and this year I am sure he would of made the TON...  My heart goes out to his family and friends...  I plan to put Paul's initials on my racer front fender... we hope "PD" finishes well this year... RIP.

Here is a picture of the  world famous Ms. Maggie Neato sitting on the Green Monster, May 8, 2010

And now for a my tribute to the Master Racer, David Roper, who so graciously rode the Green Monster to back to back wins at Willow Springs, 2010..!!

And below is the start of Saturday's race... we all know how important a good start is.. the next few pictures tells a great story..! And  on the far right is Number 7, Dave Roper, already ahead of the pack in the first few feet. Next is Ron Melton on a very fast Manx, and then a fast Honda 450.   The second group shows the number 1 green Kawi H1-R ridden by David Crussel, and Guy Tolomeo on an Aermacchi... near the back is another green bike... the very fast Paton, ridden by Jeff Ellings.

Now the field is well under way.. but even further in front is Dave Roper..!!

So as the bike get closer to the top of the Omega.. there is Ron Melton on his Manx catching up..  I do not believe Dave knew he was there...  And if you look closely you can see the fairing getting on the pavement...  also notice the lean angle... who says olde bikes do not lean over very far..??

Oh my.. three green bikes... the Green Monster, the Green Manx, followed by the Green Paton...!!

Geeesh, that Manx is trying the inside line.... but compare the lean angles of the two bikes, the difference in cornering speed was huge... that was the last time that Manx got near us the entire weekend...  The Green Monster ended up first in the Premier Class, third overall behind the Paton and the Kawi H1-R

Now this is the start of Sunday's race... and in the end, the same great start, same results...

That Honda got a great start as well, and made the dash towards the Omega..

What a great picture.. The Honda is (temporarily) in the lead, next is the Green Monster, surrounded by the Paton and H1-R on the outside, and Ralph Hudson on a 500 Suzuki two stroke and behind Ralph is the Melton Manx.

Again we have three green bikes..!!

And not long after that Paton is just waiting for the back straight, and there is Ralph, closing in as well..

And right behind Ralph is the Honda, and the Manx...

Back to the Green Monster... a great shot of Dave's back side.. that fairing is again on the tarmack..

One last picture..  The Master at work...!!!

OK here it is the end of July.. and the Green Monster has been totally refreshed..!  Check out the new "Party Clothes.."  And we have number 27 this year... moving up..!!  And YES we have a lot more power too..!!

Well, things did not turn out as expected, my shipper let us down, and the bike never shipped, so we have to wait until next year, to test the Green Monster out...  Thanks to all of those that helped me this year, and I hope you stay with me for next year..!!
